Anthropology

So I have this problem. My parents want me to go to a college where I can study to be an engineer, like M.I.T. or Georgia Tech. Problem is, I REALLY don’t want to go to a technical school. But it would look very strange to graduate from a technical school with a degree in something that is not.. well.. technical. You see, I have discovered that I’m really interested in anthropology (the study of cultures and societies around the world). I have no idea what kind of job can be obtained from studying that as a college major, but I have always thought other cultures to be so interesting. Also, I don’t know if I will like the classes. For example, I LOVE history and find it extremely fascinating. However, with the way that an A.P. class is structured, all you do is read and take a test on the reading, which is usually 40+ pages, all year long. If college classes are like that, then all my enjoyment will be sucked out by the sheer boredom I will suffer because everything will be so fast-paced and there will be no time to go into detail. I don’t know what to do. I have not told my parents for fear that they will not approve of me doing something that is sure to get me far in life. Like I said, I have no idea what I can do with this kind of major.

In conclusion, I am indecisive as to what I should do. Story of my life.
